Geologists drilled 4,160 feet into the Atlantic seabed and it changed our understanding of Earth

Geologists have made a groundbreaking discovery by drilling 4,160 feet (1,268 meters) into the Atlantic seabed, significantly advancing our understanding of Earth's structure. While Earth formed millions of years ago, scientists have long been fascinated by its inner layers but have had limited access beyond its outer crust. This recent achievement allowed researchers to penetrate the Earth’s mantle for the first time in a volcanically active region along the mid-Atlantic ridge, offering an unprecedented glimpse into the planet’s deeper layers.  The research, conducted using the ocean-drilling vessel JOIDES Resolution and led by Professor Johan Lissenberg of Cardiff University’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, represents the culmination of decades of effort, dating back to the 1960s. The findings, published in the journal *Science*, reveal the mineral composition and chemical makeup of mantle rocks recovered during the expedition. Professor Lissenberg emphasized ...

The Trump campaign mistakenly confuses Detroit pastors in its efforts to appeal to Black voters.

A Detroit pastor expressed his offense on Wednesday after the Trump campaign mistakenly announced his participation in a Republican Black voter outreach event, confusing him with another local pastor.  Bishop Charles H. Ellis III, a lifelong Democrat who supports Kamala Harris, told *BridgeDetroit* that he had no association with the event and has been focused on voter registration and turnout efforts at his Greater Grace Temple. “I don’t know how they got my name,” Ellis said, emphasizing Detroit’s Democratic influence. The Trump campaign had mistakenly listed Ellis as a participant in a roundtable with Black faith leaders in Detroit, despite his church recently hosting a voter mobilization event in support of Harris. A campaign spokesperson later clarified that the announcement intended to name Apostle Ellis Smith, founder of Jubilee City Church, as the attendee. Smith was unavailable for comment. Gina Barr, the Trump campaign’s director of Black engagement, took responsibi...

On Friday, former President Donald Trump delivered remarks in Grand Rapids and later participated in a town hall in Warren, Michigan, as part of his efforts to court union autoworkers. Trump focused his critiques on immigration, international trade, and electric vehicles during his brief but fiery 35-minute speech at Macomb Community College. The town hall, moderated by Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn, drew a large crowd, many of whom were autoworkers, as shown when hundreds raised their hands in response to Blackburn’s question. The event highlighted Trump's appeal to this demographic as he fields concerns from workers impacted by changes in the auto industry. In response to the first question from an autoworker who assembles diesel engines, Trump reiterated his familiar stance on illegal immigration. He cited the construction of the border wall during his presidency and blamed President Joe Biden’s administration for the rise in border crossings. Trump also claimed that newl...
